THE RUTHERFORDTON SUN, THURSDAY MORNING, JULY 27, J905. Wtt. Published Every Thursday in the Year by The Sun Printing Co., Rutherfordton, N. C. , V C. D. WILKIE. Prmsiomnt. One Copy One Month 10. THURSDAY. JULY 27. 1&Q5. DO GOOD ROADS PAY? The following item is taken from a Jacksonville, Florida exchange: If you will call upon J. C. Slorh, real estate dealer, he will tell you of a small tract of land near the new object lesson road that a few months ago was offered for sale at $600. That, along with other property near this new road grew in value, and whenhe had an offer for this same tract of $3,200 he found it had just been sold at $2, 700 and his offer of "$3,200, which was over five times its former rate, would not buy the property. This increase in value all came from the building of this sample road. The increase in value of this small tract would pay for over one-half mile of the cost of the road, and the in creased value of the abutting prop erties for one-half mile would pay the cost of building or extending this line a distance Of ten miles". The improvement in prices at which lands are selling along these rock roads wherever they have beeu built will be from five to ten times its former value. If this is so, or if we are sure property will even double in value, should wTe not im prove our principal highways at the earliest possible day?. HOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE. Forest City Town Authorities Im proving Improving Their Streets. fSnsJnl to The Sun.) FOREST CITY, July 17. We have not had any real hard. rains at Forest City. Our.rains have-been light when compared with the 'rains of upper Rutherford. W. D. Proctor, our faithful and ef ficient section master on the South ern R. R., had the misfortune of los ing one of his tenent dwellings on Friday, July 14th, by tire. He had no insurance as is so often the case. Barney Harrili has moved back to his residence in Forest City and is building an annex to it, and at the same time he is improving the looks with a coat of paint. Arthur Young has moved into one of the Carpenter dwellings on South side of West Main street. The town authorities are now put ting a coat of coal ash- and cynders on our streets at present. This will help the roads in wet muddy weather and give to the good ladies some little work in keeping out coal dust while wind blows. Corn and cotton crops around Forest City are looking very well and prom ise a good crop so far. We have a new central in the tele phone office and will either praise or curse her in a week or so. We hope to praise her. We hope to see some im provement in the system in a short while so that the public will get bet ter service out of their phones. We hope to have a better system at For est City. Mr. Crowell our druggist is quite sick now with fever. L. A. Moore, who became sick from overheat, is convalescent and 'will soon be on his feet again. Kathleen young, daughter of Dr. G. E. Young, is fast getting well and will soon be able to join her jovial friends again. Mrs. F. W. King is not any better at this writing than she nas been for several days. M:T. Carpenter does not recover from hi9 stroke of paralysis. He is able to be up but' has to be very quiet. Picnic At Tanner's Grove. (Special to The Sun.) TANNER GROVE, July 17 The picnic at Sulphur Springs was quite a success, had a large crowd and a good dinner. The amusements were fine. The old men around Sulphur Springs played a match game of ball with the kids. The score stood 8 to 12 in favor of the old men at fifth ending. At 11 o'clock Rev. J. B. Carpenter, of Ruth erfordton addressed the children. At one o'clock the chicken, beef and ham was displayed and all the people par took heartily. At 4 o'clock in the afternoon Hill Billy and Sulphur Springs crossed bats. The score stood 22 to 15 in fa vorer Sulphur Springs. Mrs. Jno. Oraton his gone to Cbim aey Beck thjf, week. THE BIG "HUMP." I found, however, that it did me no good. On seeking the advice of our druggist, he asked me to try Peruna. In a few weeks I began to feel and act like a different person. My appetite in creased, I did not have that worn-out feeling, and I could sleep splendidly, in a couple of months I was entirely recovered. 1 thank you for what your medicine has done for me.
